Birch 'Young's Weeping'
Betula pendula 'Youngii' - A very attractive dwarf birch with slender pendulous branches which form a dome-shaped head. The root system is variable in structure by the site, but trees usually develop extensive lateral roots. Although the root system is usually shallow, roots may penetrate over 5 feet in depth when grown on deep, loamy or sandy-loamy soils. Very slow growing. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 20-30 minutes whether is rains or not. Plant at least 3-4 feet from any foundation.
Zone 2. 6m x 6m. Small nutlet fruit. Catkin flowers on dark green foliage turning yellow in the fall. Ornamental, weeping shape. Full sun. Adaptable soil.
Attracts birds. Deer resistant.
