Wintergreen (Checkerberry) 'Creeping'
Gaultheria procumbens - A low growing ground cover with glossy green leaves. Aromatic fruit and foliage has wintergreen flavour and fragrance. Red fall colour. Native. They have a shallow root system and grow very slowly. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 10-15 minutes whether is rains or not. Plant at least 3-4 feet from any foundation.Â
Zone 4. 2m W x 15cm H. Red berry fruit with white flowers. Spreading habit with dark green foliage. Part sun to part shade. Acid loving soil.
Attracts pollinators. Deer resistant.
