    Maintenance Notes:
    • For optimal performance, keep your Piper at 60-85°F (15-29°C).
    • Pipers prefer medium to bright, indirect or filtered light. Direct sunlight may lead to leaf scorch. Low light may cause them to get leggy, lose their variegation, or simply fail to thrive.
    • If your Piper starts dropping leaves, it may be an indication that it needs higher humidity or to be moved away from a draft or the flow of forced air. Pipers are tropical plants, preferring humidity in the 40-60% range. To increase humidity, you may need to position your Piper near a humidifier, place it on a pebble tray, or surround it with other plants.
    • Pipers prefer consistent moisture, but they do not like wet, soggy soil. As such, water your Piper thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry.
    • Feed your Piper once per month at half strength when it is actively growing. Reduce frequency of fertilization in the winter months.
    • Protect furniture when watering & fertilizing.
    • Pipers like to have their roots a bit crowded, but will need to be potted up every couple years to ensure adequate nutrition and drainage.  When up-potting your Piper, use an all-purpose potting mix, with perlite and orchid bark added.
    • Pipers are climbers. Provide them with a moss pole, trellis, or other structure to climb.
