The whole plant usually disappears by late summer. Best in a woodland situation with rich, moist acidic soil. Not always easy to establish. Plants resent being disturbed but division every 5 to 8 years is possible. This is best done in late summer after plants become dormant. When happy these May begin to spread by self seeding.
Has mottled leaves with three leaflets, and deep red flowers with quite long, narrow petals, growing right in the middle of the leaves.
