5” Hanging Basket

The "Purple Wandering Jew" (now widely called the "Wandering Dude") is scientifically known as Tradescantia zebrina or Tradescantia pallida (Purple Heart). These fast-growing, trailing plants feature vibrant, deep purple and silvery striped leaves. They thrive in bright, indirect sunlight and need watering only when the top 50% of the soil dries out.
Care & Maintenance
To keep the signature purple hues of your Wandering Jew vibrant and prevent the stems from getting "leggy" (long and sparse), place it in a bright location that receives plenty of indirect morning light. [1]
  • Watering: Water thoroughly but allow the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.
  • Pruning: Pinch back the tips of the stems regularly to encourage a bushier, fuller plant.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining, porous potting mix
  • Troubleshooting Common Issues
  • Fading green leaves: Usually a sign the plant isn't getting enough light. Move it closer to a window.
  • Crispy, brown leaf tips: Caused by dry air or inconsistent watering. Increase humidity or water a bit more regularly
