Rhododendron 'Haaga'
Rhododendron x 'Haaga' - A relatively new broadleaf evergreen shrub with rich deep pink flowers in spring, coarse dark foliage and an upright mounded habit, quite hardy; absolutely must have well-drained, highly acidic and organic soil, use plenty of peat moss when planting. Grows at a slow rate and the roots are shallow, spreading to sides in search for nutrients. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 20-30 minutes whether is rains or not. Plant at least 3-4 feet from any foundation.Â
Zone 4. 1.5m W x 1.5m H. Insignificant fruit. Pink flowers on dark green foliage. Upright spreading form. Full sun to part shade. Well drained, acid loving soil.Â
Attracts butterflies and is deer resistant.
All parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested. Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses.
