Pine Chickadee / Nuthatch / Wren House
All of our quality wood bird houses are constructed of sturdy material, using boards that weather well and can be stained or treated with Lifetime Wood Treatment. All have side or front openings for easy monitoring and cleaning. An extra thick entrance serves as predator protection for the front of all Wren, Chickadee, and Bluebird boxes. This offers a welcome respite for the parents and the nestlings from marauding raccoons. Chickadees peek under bark for scale, caterpillars, insect eggs, codling moth larvae, beetles, and ants. They also eat aphids and snails in addition to seeds and some fruit. Woodpeckers and nuthatches patrol trees and feast on spiders, aphids, beetles, and caterpillars. They will also feed at your suet feeders in the winter. Mount this house in either a tree or on a post. Mounting instructions are included.
For wrens, we recommend a minimum of 3 houses as the male will fill each house with twigs. Singing loudly, he will then attract a mate who will choose one house for her first of 2-3 broods. The other houses will be used for the next broods. Wrens have been seen making 1200 trips to a nest per day with insects. They feed on ants, aphids, bees, beetles, caterpillars (especially Gypsy Moth), cabbage caterpillars, spiders, grasshoppers, and ticks. A great bird for your garden!
