Ficus Microcarpa
14" POT
Considered the ideal starter bonsai, the Ficus Retusa (aka Ginseng Bonsai) is a tropical plant from Southeast Asia. It is well-loved for its thick, sculptural trunk and dark glossy foliage. A go-to for those new to bonsai and enthusiasts alike, its unique look is often completed by aerial roots that reach into the soil, giving the tree an ancient, weathered appearance in a compact size.
Let the top quarter of soil dry before watering again. Check a couples inches down the pot — if that upper layer feels dry, it’s time to water.
Watering needs change with light, humidity, and season. Plants dry faster in bright light or summer, slower in winter. Always water thoroughly until it drains, but never let roots sit in standing water. We recommend well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes (or a nursery pot inside a cover pot).
This plant prefers bright light with a bit of direct sun daily. Perfect for South, East, or West-facing windows. If your space is dimmer, consider a grow light. In Spring–Summer, place it outdoors in partial sun and shade.
This plant requires moderate humidity. Most households should be fine at around 30-40%. It will be happy with more as well.
