The Chrysanthemum 'Belgian Mums® Jasoda Purple' is a popular, late-season hardy garden mum highly prized for its dense, saturated deep purple blooms and flawless spherical mounding habit. Unlike traditional garden mums that can grow loose or leggy, the Jasoda series features an exceptional self-pinching genetic trait. This allows the plant to naturally branch out into a solid, tight dome of color where the green foliage completely fades into the background once it reaches full bloom.
Key Characteristics & Features
- Bloom Window: This is a late-fall performer, typically opening its flowers between October 15 and November 1. It provides vibrant, deep contrast just as the rest of the autumn garden begins to fade.
- Growth Habit: It naturally forms a uniform, tight sphere. It generally matures to a height and spread of 18 to 24 inches (though container sizes may vary).
- Natural Bloomers: Jasoda mums are bred by Gediflora to bloom entirely on their natural schedule without being artificial forced in greenhouses. This results in a much hardier, healthier plant with significantly longer-lasting flower longevity.
Cultivation & Care Basics
To keep your Jasoda Purple mum thriving through the autumn season, follow these essential care guidelines:
- Sunlight: Full sun is highly recommended (6+ hours of direct sunlight daily). Ample sunlight keeps the stems exceptionally sturdy so the heavy weight of the prolific blooms won't cause the mound to split open.
- Watering: Maintain moderate moisture. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry, taking care to water the base of the plant rather than wetting the dense foliage, which can trap moisture and invite fungal issues.
- Soil: They do best in rich, loamy, and well-draining soil. If keeping them in pots, ensure the container has functional drainage holes.
