The glossy, leathery leaves are dark green and retain their deep colour until late in fall. The white, pink and purplish brown flowers are borne on spikes 2 feet to 3 feet high. Both the foliage and flowers are fragrant and when the parts are crushed in the hand, they have the fragrance of lemon. Once established, the plant is very drought tolerant. Produces an oil that irritates some people skins. The oil appears to be sunlight activated. If you wash the exposed skin before it receives too much direct sunlight, irritation won’t occur.
White flowers on 2 foot stalks.
