Crabapple 'Sugar Tyme'
Malus Sugar Tyme ('Sutyzam') - Snowy-white flowers open from pink buds and cover the entire tree. Fruit is persistent throughout the winter. Disease resistant. 1/2" size fruit. Not edible. Crabapples are not known to have invasive root systems. As with all trees, a tree's root system grows horizontally as opposed to vertically as most nutrients are found in the uppermost layers of soil. They have a moderate growth rate of 12 to 24 inches per year, and a 5-gallon potted tree may take three to five years or even longer before it flowers heavily. Prune in spring after it's finished flowering. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 20-30 minutes whether is rains or not. Plant at least 3-4 feet from any foundation.
