Clerodendrum x speciosum is an attractive, rare and unusual evergreen climber with heart-shaped leaves and clusters of red flowers with pinky-white bracts in summer and autumn. It might produce blue, bean-like fruits in autumn.

Clerodendrum x speciosum is a strong grower and will need to be grown up a support. It’s not fully hardy so is best grown in a very mild area or in a conservatory, where it should be shaded from strong sun. Feed regularly with a high-potash feed throughout the growing season to keep the blooms coming. Water well, but allow the compost to dry out before watering again. Water sparingly in winter.
