The compact version of the burro's tail is known botanically as Sedum morganianum 'Burrito', commonly called the baby burro's tail or lamb's tail.
Key Differences from Standard Burro's Tail
  • Shorter Stems: The trailing stems grow shorter and more compact than the classic species.
  • Rounder Leaves: The plump, bead-like leaves are stubbier, more rounded at the tips, and feature a silvery lime-green color.
  • Care Requirements
  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light or several hours of direct sun daily to maintain a tight, dense form. “If the plant starts to stretch or lose its compact form, it may be an indication that it’s not receiving enough light.”
  • Water: “The fleshy leaves store water and will shrivel slightly before falling off to indicate the need for more water.” Allow the soil to dry completely between thorough waterings.
  • Soil: Use a fast-draining succulent or cactus potting mix to prevent root rot.
  • Handling: The leaves fall off very easily with even gentle friction, so place the plant in a low-traffic spot
