Bittersweet 'Diane'
Celastrus scandens 'Diane' - Diane Bittersweet - A named female version of Bittersweet with very colourful fruit. In the fall the leaves turn yellow and the orange seed capsules burst open to reveal red seeds. Requires both male and female plants for fruiting and they need strong support for growing. It has a shallow, lateral, fibrous root system and is fast growing. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 10 minutes whether is rains or not. Plant at least 3-4 feet from any foundation.
Zone 2. 6m. Climbing form. Dark green foliage with yellow-white flowers in May and June. Full sun to part shade. Adaptable soil. 1Gallon.
Attracts pollinators. Deer resistant.
