8” Hanging Basket

The Black Pagoda Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus marmoratus/longicaulis) is a striking, trailing tropical plant known for its glossy green, succulent-like leaves with unique dark purple, marbled undersides and intricate vein patterns. It thrives in bright, indirect light, producing orange or yellow, tubular flowers. It is non-toxic to pets and ideal for hanging baskets, requiring moderate, well-draining care.
Key Care Guidelines:
  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain foliage color and promote blooms; avoid direct sun, which can burn leaves.
  • Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, allowing the top inch to dry out between waterings. They are sensitive to overwatering, which causes root rot.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining, nutrient-rich mix, such as a blend of potting soil, peat moss, perlite, and bark.
  • Humidity & Temperature: Thrives in average household humidity, though it appreciates higher humidity (like in a bathroom or with misting). Prefers temperatures between 65F-75F (18C-24C)

    • Maintenance: Prune occasionally to encourage a bushier, trailing habit.
    • Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced fertilizer monthly during the growing season (spring/summer).
    Key Features:
    • Appearance: Leaves have a "reptilian" or mottled, striped look with deep burgundy undersides.
    • Flowers: The "lipstick" style blooms are often, though not always, orange on the Black Pagoda variety.

    Flowers:
  • Versatility: Excellent for hanging planters or elevated shelves, trailing up to 1-3 feet.
