Yucca 'Colour Guard Adam's Needle'

Yucca filamentosa 'Colour Guard' - The flowers tower above the green and creamy-yellow variegated pointed leaves. Very stately. The yellow stripe in the leaves may turn a rosy colour in cool weather. Some are fast-growing plants growing up to two feet per year, while others grow slowly, about 5 inches a year. Yucca plant roots can go from 2 to 30 feet deep into the soil. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 20-30 minutes whether is rains or not. Plant at least 3-4 feet from any foundation. 

Zone 4. 80cm W x 1.4m H. Insignificant fruit. White flowers on green/yellow foliage. Upright clump form. Full sun to part shade. Adaptable soil.

Yucca moths play an important role in the survival of yucca plants. Without the yucca moth, the yucca plant would lose its only pollinator, and without the plant, the moth would lose its food source. They are relatively deer resistant. Deer will eat the blooms but will spare the foliage.
