Maple 'Red'

Acer rubrum - Profuse small red flowers emerge before the leaves come out. Fall colour can vary from yellow to red. Their roots are shallow and generally reach way beyond the canopy of the tree. Water deeply to encourage more root depth. They grow 12-18” per year.  Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 20-30 minutes whether is rains or not. Plant at least 3-4 feet from any foundation.

Native. Zone 3. 13m x 13m. Samara fruit. Red flowers on green leaves turning green-yellow to red in the fall. Broadly oval, rounded shape. Full sun to part shade. Adaptable acidic soil. 

Does not attracts pollinators. Deer resistant.
