Dogwood 'Red Osier
Cornus sericea - Red Osier Dogwood - Bright red stems on this native shrub make for excellent winter colour. Good for naturalizing large areas or mass planting. Has a shallow root system and grows about 1' per year. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once or twice a week for about 10 minutes whether is rains or not.
Zone 3. 4m W x 2m H. Irregular, rounded shape. White flowers in June. White fruit on dark green foliage turning purple-red in the fall. Full sun to part shade. Adaptable soil. 3Gallon.
Attracts birds and butterflies. Deer resistant.
