Cornus alternifolia - Pagoda Dogwood - A small native tree or shrub with interesting tiered, horizontal branching. Bark becomes striped on older specimens. Unless container grown, should be planted in spring. Has a shallow root system and grows about 1' per year. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once or twice a week for about 10 minutes whether is rains or not.

Zone 3. 6m W x 6m H. Spreading, tiered branching shape. Yellow-white flowers in June. Blue-black fruit on dark green foliage turning red-purple in the fall. Part sun to Part Shade. Moist, well drained, acid soil. 3Gallon.

Attracts birds and butterflies. Deer resistant.
