Meet ‘Manatee’. Much like the herbivorous sea cow, this herbaceous houseplant can grow impressively large over time. It has strappy leaves of solid dark green that grow upwards along bamboo-like canes. Leaves have a unique texture, with ridges running their length. Leaves are curved akin to the gentle curves of a manatee’s flippers. Like other Dracaenas, and its oceanic counterpart, ‘Manatee’ will thrive with a splash of bright, indirect light each day, making it the perfect low-maintenance houseplant to add to your collection.

    Maintenance Notes:
    • For optimal performance, keep your Dracaena at 60-85°F (15-29°C).
    • Dracaenas are adaptable plants, capable of growing well in varying levels of light & humidity. They will grow most vigorously in medium to bright, indirect light, with medium to high humidity. They can generally adapt, however, to the low lighting and ambient humidity of an interior room.  Exposure to direct sunlight, especially in the middle of the day, can lead to leaf scorch. In winter months, they may benefit from increased humidity from the use of a humidifier or occasional misting.
    • Dracaenas prefer to dry out in between waterings. As such, water your Dracaena thoroughly when the top two inches of soil feel dry.
    • Dracaenas can be sensitive to impurities, hard minerals, and salts in tap water, which can cause leaf edges to burn & turn brown, often starting at the tips. If you notice this browning or “tipping”, it may be beneficial to switch to watering your Dracaenas with distilled water.
    • Browning leaves can be cut away with shears to keep your Dracaena looking its best.
    • Feed your Dracaena once per month at half strength when it is actively growing. Reduce frequency of fertilization in the winter months.
    • Protect furniture when watering & fertilizing.
    • Dracaenas are very forgiving, easy to grow houseplants, even if a little rootbound. When repotting your Dracaena, use an all-purpose potting mix, with perlite added to ensure good drainage.
