Spirea 'Double Play Doozie' (PW)
Spiraea x 'NCSX2' - The Double Play Spirea 'Doozie' is very popular for the spectacular coloring of its foliage. Dark green with new red shoots during the summer, then orange-red in fall and spring, this spirea is beautiful throughout the seasons. It also has pretty purple-red flowers which attract butterflies and which does not produce any seeds, making this shrub very easy to care for. Grows up to 3-5" per year. Prune in spring. Use Bone Meal when you first plant. Do not fertilize the first year. Fertilize once a year with a balanced granular fertilizer. Do not plant any deeper than it is in the pot. Do not add any soil or mulch around the base of the stem. Water deeply once a week for about 20-30 minutes whether is rains or not. Roots go about 30" deep.
Zone 3. 1m W x 1m H. Mounded shape. Purple-red flowers May-June. Insignificant fruit on dark green foliage turning orange-red in the fall. Full sun. Adaptable soil. 3Gallon.
