Perennials: Also known as Hollyhock Mallow. strong, erect stems are loaded with 5 cm (2") cup-shaped, mauve-pink flowers that are heavily veined with a velvety-purple.

Sowing: Start seeds 6-8 weeks early indoors. Barely cover seeds and germinate at 21C (70F) for 5-10 days. Grow at 13C (55F). Space plants 30-45 cm (12-18") apart. Sow directly outdoors in early May.

Comments: Old fashioned tender perennial is outstanding at the back of the border.
